1982 Drexel Heritage ET Cetera Chinoiserie End Table Black & Burl with Ormolu
Outstanding vintage Drexel Heritage ET Cetera collection chinoiserie black painted end table or side table featuring black lacquered insert framed with burlwood top, gold details, ormolu accents, and a brass pull on the drawer. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This piece is not like new it has a nice overall age patina. It is comprised of a rectangular wood frame with highly skilled, intricately painted gold chinoiserie designs along the apron of the table and down the cabriole legs which are accented with FABULOUS ormolu feet. It. Is. STUNNING!! The top has a rectangle burl wood frame with a black lacquered inlay top and a single drawer beneath with a rose shaped brass pull…it’s just exquisite! And the detail in the gold accents is impeccable. This end table would be a wonderful accent in your sitting room beside your chaise or in your living room between a pair of chairs. But it’s striking enough to stand on its own in any room. Plus, it is made by Drexel, so you know it was created with exceptional quality and unmatchable style. Sam Huffman, one of the initial founders, managed the enterprise until his death in 1935 when his son, Robert O. Huffman took the helm. By 1950 under the younger Huffman’s leadership Drexel had grown from a small factory to a leader in furniture manufacturing. They acquired other furniture companies along the way and by the late 1950s employed 2300 workers. The 1960s had them adding industrial and hospitality furniture to their lines. In 1968 they were purchased again, and Drexel Enterprises became Drexel Heritage Furnishings, Inc. They continued to add to their styles and lines and were sold again and then in 1986 became part of Masco Corporation one of the country’s largest furniture manufacturers. They are now based in High Point, NC and operate ten factories in North Carolina and one in South Carolina and are one of the leading furniture manufacturers in the world.
