Antique English Square Coffee Table With Fleur-De-Lis Satinwood Inlay This nicely proportioned antique coffee table, which is supported on inverted vase-turned and tapered legs, has wonderful patina and a refined satinwood banding and inlay pattern on the graceful fluer-de-lis motif, the stylized emblem long associated with the French monarchy. In French, fleur-de-lis means flower of the lily, which is symbolized by a three-petaled iris tied by an encircling band. According to legend, Louis VII dreamed of irises before setting out on the Crusades in 1137. He adopted the flower as his emblem and it became known as the Fleur de Louis.
