French Louis XVI Style White Painted and Parcel-Gilt Violet Marble Console Table
FRENCH LOUIS XVI CARVED WHITE-PAINTED PARCEL-GILT CONSOLE TABLE WITH VIOLET MARBLE TOP Circa late 19th century Item # 306YPZ14Q A wonderful late 19th century carved console, the table notably retains the original and positively stunning violet marble top with chaotic veins of cream, pink, gold, burgundy and rust running throughout. It is shaped to conform with the overall demilune curvature of the console with small step-out projections over the leg rosettes and the central motif. This is a complex display featuring a quiver full of arrows surrounded by flowers and naturalistic foliage while a single bow crosses in the background. It retains an old but likely not original white-painted surface throughout with lovely part-gilded accents. The four tapered and fluted legs are locked together with a curved stretcher that is beautifully molded with the same relief repeating water-leaves framing the panels throughout the apron. They culminate in a circular display of draped leaves surrounding a central fruit finial. An incredibly sleek and striking piece, crisply carved and beautifully finished, this is a very fine acquisition that goes well both in the antique/traditional interior as well as more modern settings. Measurements: 34 1/4" H x 18" D x 68 3/4" W Condition Report: Original marble top with an old restored crack down the center - the crack has been restored several times, most recently in our shop with a color-matched epoxy resin. It is now sturdy and stable (with iron rods on the interior), but because it has been repaired numerous times, we recommend the top remains set on the frame and that it is not lifted off for transport or movement. White paint is probably later, appearing to be old but not original. Loss of applied decoration to the front right foot; a few other spots of loss, chipping, wear, joint gaps, etc. A very fine piece, ready to place immediately.
